Cape Gooseberry (Physalis peruviana), also known as goldenberry or ground cherry, is a small, round fruit encased in a papery husk. It has smooth, golden-orange skin and a sweet-tart flavor, similar to pineapple and tomato. The plant thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, producing fruits on bushy, spreading plants. Cape gooseberries are great for fresh eating, jams, desserts, or drying, and are rich in vitamins A and C.
